Washington Monument Tour, Jefferson Memorial, FDR Memorials & Arlington Cemetery
Today almost didn't happen, we didn't realize our tickets to the Washington Monument were for this morning, about 45 minutes before our scheduled tour we looked at the tickets and realized they were for today. We took a taxi to the monument and got there about 10 minutes before the tour. I didn't actually realize the monument was hollow and there was a tour, Naomi got the tickets. We took a 70 second elevator ride to the 500 foot level. The view was great from there, too bad the windows weren't clearer and it wasn't a clearer day. But it was a fun little trip, I didn't realize it took almost 40 years to build starting in the 1840s.
After the Washington Monument, we walked to the Jefferson Memorial, it has a nice museum downstairs. From there we walked to the FDR memorial where we started getting a little light rain. We took a taxi to Arlington Cemetery and took the shuttle tour there. Towards the end of the tour, it started raining really hard. We didn't see the Iwo Jima Memorial and sat out the rain in the visitors center. Finding caught a break and walked to the subway to go back to the hotel.
Naomi's feet are really bothering her, so she spent the rest of the day with them elevated while I took the kids to the pool for some fun. We had pizza delivered for dinner and relaxed the rest of the day.
