Thinking of You    From: Dhxon@aol.com

Dear Mitch,

Just thinking of you and wanted to send love, a big hug and kiss your way. May God bless as we all enter into a New Year. : - )

Lots of Love,

@nnie

praying for you--   From: Kathy LeDuc <kleduc@csuchico.edu>

Mitch,

This seems like such a poor way to express my sorrow, but it's the only address I have. From your photos and journals, I felt like I got to know you and Katie (and am still sorry that I didn't connect with you in Willows, CA last summer).

She was a bright, sunny girl and touched our lives, even over the internet. My heart goes out to you. I pray that God will carry you through this time of anguish.

With love,

Kathy

Re: Katie    From: RPSUNBUG@cs.com

Mitch & Family,

Please accept my heartfelt condolences on your loss. I remember meeting Katie last spring at a very rainy Chicagoland bug show, at which she tried to trade your car for mine. Her spirited laughter and intelligent charm were the only sunshine that dreary day. We all shared your & Katie's trips and her storytelling was detailed and humorous. My deepest sympathies.

>>>I like the tree idea. We can provide a tree from our tree farm here in California. Where does it get planted after Roswell?<<<

I'll bet I can talk the Convention Center folks into letting us plant it on the grounds. Then we can visit it each year!

I missed and deleted a bunch of digests a few days ago and just realized the meaning of all the angel messages ... I was so shocked when I read the news.

I am so sorry for the loss of Katie ... incomprehensible, unfathomable.. there are no words to even approach what the family must be feeling ... I am so sorry ... just speechless.

Mitch,

First I would like to say how deeply saddened I am for your loss.  You have been in my mind and heart constantly since I heard about Katie on Monday.  I can't begin to tell you how much this has affected me.

Second, I apologize for not being able to attend the funeral.  I was miserable all day Wednesday for not being there.  But Ken explained that it would have been at least a 10-11 hour drive each way.  I am still kicking myself in the behind for not living in Bhm at that point, instead of down here.

You are a dear person, and I'm glad that I was able to have lunch with you and Katie that Monday I was in town.  Please take care of yourself, and let me know from time to time how you're doing.  I will always worry about you, I know how much Katie was/is your life.  You're one of the best fathers I've ever seen - try to keep that in mind always.

Keep in touch!

Lisa

[NewBug] Happy New Year    From: "Kevin Buchanan" <kevbuch@ticnet.com>

Well, it's been one heck of a year.  I FINALLY got around to bringing The Spirit of Volkswagen back, which was a big plus for me late in the year.  I took home a first place trophy at Bug Swarm V, which I'm still stoked about, and did *major* custom work to my beloved Spirit.  Plus, I passed all my classes this time around, including the college biology class I was taking (yippeee!)

Of course, not everything's been good this year.  My mother took a new job in Arizona, so of course I don't get to see her much at all anymore.  A good friend of mine died from muscular dystrophy earlier in the year, then another acquaintance committed suicide a few weeks later.  And of course, I need not mention the tragic loss of Katie Perry.

I'm looking forward to a great new year/new millenium (even though, technically, it won't be the new millenium until 2001, but let's not open THAT can of worms!).  2000 holds my high school graduation, lots of fun shows, and of course, Roswell!

I hope to make good on one of my resolutions, which is to become friends with more of you on the list.  Even though I've been on here since, oh, probably April of 1998, I still don't know a lot of you, which I hope to change.

I just want to wish all of you the very happiest of new years!  And remember, don't drink and drive.  I'll be out celebrating the new year with my friends in the Fort Worth Volks Folks club, so I'll see you all in 2000!!!

Katie   From: Eric Mathis <mathise@mail.ware.public.lib.ga.us>

Hello Mitch!

I was extremely horrified to hear of Katie's death. Although I haven't had the good fortune of meeting you and Katie, I really have felt connected to you two after reading about your many great adventures together!

It is really evident that you both had a great relationship and enjoyed each other alot! The pictures and comments made by you and Katie really touch the heart. Katie is a very special girl whose charm is infectious! I'm sure Katie is smiling down on you remembering all the good times you shared with her and reserving a pair of wings for you in Heaven! I'm sure she's bragging about how super her dad is!

I can't begin to know how you feel, but I do know that the loss of a loved one is a horrible thing (lost my mother-my only living parent- last Christmas). Just know that you and Katie will always remember the good times you both had, and that this separation is really just temporary!

Again, I'm really sorry for your loss, but please know that your "extended family's" prayers are with you and your wife!

Take care,

Eric

Mitch,

I am generally just a lurker on the new bug list, but I wanted to tell you how very sorry I am for your loss. I have two young children and I adore them and I can only imagine what you and your family are going through.

I wish that I knew the right words to say but all that I can say is that your daughter seemed like a wonderful young lady and you were obviously a wonderful father to her.

I hope this new year brings peace and good health to you and to your family.

Once again, I am so sorry.

Fondly,

Wendy

Our thoughts and Prayers are with you   From: Kelvin Lake <Kelvin@lake22.demon.co.uk>

Dear Shirley and Mitch,

We were so dreadfully sorry to hear of the tragic loss of your beautiful daughter, both Jeanne and myself send our thoughts and prayers to you both at this sad time.

Personally I will count it a privilege to have known Katie - even for such a short while.

I will treasure the "Welcome Banner" she made for us and can see her now waving it at the airport when we came to stay for the Olympics in '96 - also all the numerous gifts she would leave on our dressing tables as a surprise.

You are in our thoughts and we send all our love to you both,

From

Pam and Jeanne
