Day 4 of 14
Roswell 2K Car Show & PartyThe day final came, something that has been in the planning for about 16 months. And it was a great day for a car show. It was a bit overcast in the morning, so it didn't get to hot and it cleared up in the afternoon. There were easily over 300 New Beetles in the car show. The parking lot had 450 spaces and they were nearly all full.
The vendor stuff inside was also great, but I forgot to buy stuff, I did get a PF bra from New Dimensions, but that was all I got. Purple Haze had 2 siblings there, one a little more dark green. The glove box organizer actually looked like it would really help make the glove box useful, but it is really a shelf. I was eyeing a R/C car carrier w/6 NBs for $150, but when I went back to get it from Randy it was gone. Then I just walked around, talked to people and looked at all the awesome cars. My favorites at the show where Debbie's paint on DejaVW and Patty's Kermit display was awesome, with the transformation from "normal" Kermit to "alien" Kermit. There were so many wonderful cars and people, it was really great.
We gave away 2 giant Herbies as door prizes. The first winner was Fatima & Luke (who are newlyweds that went to R2K for their honeymoon). Jeanette Peterlin was the second winner (her NB 'Patience' also won 3rd in 98 modified). We also drew the winner for the stay at home contest, who was #21 Richard P. Lukas.
After the car show, we cruised out to the bottomless lake. We parked at the entrance and must have had 200+ cars lined up. Then we entered the park and we sort of got lost. We were just following the car in front of us to the swimming hole. We drove for what seemed like forever and next thing I knew we were exiting the park and heading back for Roswell. As it turned out, we really didn't have time to swim, so we just went back and relaxed before the Alien Costume party.
I tried working on my web site, so it wouldn't be late again during the break, but I just didn't have enough time.
The Party was wonderful, we got there late after the pre-party gathering and sat with the mayor of Roswell and his daughter, David, Howie and the 2 Japanese press guys. Dinner was good then the beauty pageant was fun especially the kids. The costumes were awesome, my favorite was Rolland's. His was simple, but he did a nice job. He had a black shirt & hat that had some R2K emblem w/ "Howie's Bodyguard" underneath it. When Howie went to the stage for an award, Rolland escorted him and stood behind him acting like he was talking on a small mic. The awards ceremony were good. David tried to recognize everyone who assisted in the project. I was recognized for helping start this whole thing with the scouting mission last year, with Katie, David, Jeff & his 2 daughters & got a model for leading the caravan to the Smokey Bear /Horse Museums. Then there were some drawing for door prizes and I gave away the last Giant Herbie to Bryon Chatterton of Oklahoma City, OK. Handing out tickets for the drawing was not fun, I felt like a ball player being mobbed by a bunch of fans looking for a autograph. Finally there was the costume contest. First place in the adult costume contest, went to Patty ( of Kermit fame) and her friend, they were dressed as the three eyed aliens for Toy Story. An alien Elvis (owner of a Vapor Blue we met at Carlsbad caravans the day before) won second place in the adult contest and a young girl that was real bouncy won the kids group.
There was a presentation to Rolland & Judy for their 25th anniversary including a cake (which was good too).
Then the music & dancing started. Lindale gave me a check for $216 from Peter Piper Pizza, ALQ for the sells of the Western Caravan. The check will go to Katie's school, The Cottage School in Roswell, Ga. Thanks Lindale and all the western caravan for your support.
The big event happened, I got the DJ to get Naomi on stage. Where I got down on one knee and asked her to marry me & she actually said YES!!! She couldn't believe it when I took off my cone head and tossed the Herbies into the crowd and then pulled out a ring from inside my cone head. She had been poking at it all night, thinking there were just Herbies inside of it. Unfortunately, I don't have a picture. Did anyone capture this moment for us, please email it. TIA.
It was a wonderful day and night:)
