New York Vacation June 21, 2005

NYC

Today we started with a New York Breakfast, Bagel & Cream Cheese at a local store. It was a very good Bagel, but I thought it was about 10 times too much cream cheese. We then took a subway to Battery Park for a ride to the Statue of Liberty. We met Naomi's Aunt Eileen who spent the day with us.  We had a nice boat ride to the Statue. We didn't have to wait for a scheduled time for the tour, so we went straight into the Statue.

They had the most sophisticated security equipment I have seen to date. We had to go through security before riding the boat, but in order to get into the Statue, we went through security again. They had equipment that made the stuff at the airports look like toys. It almost looked like a stand-up MRI that puffed air on you and you had to stand still for about 10 seconds.

The museum was really nice, the view from the base of the Statue wasn't very good. But the kids enjoyed the process. Afterward we walked around the island and then rode the boat back to Manhattan.

We walked through the Wall Street area and onto WTC site. It was a shame that nothing has been done to start rebuilding the site. The last time I was here, was August of 1999, when Katie and I had lunch at the top of the WTC.  We spend a few minutes at the site and then went to a local Deli (Stage Door Deli just off of Broadway) for lunch. After lunch we got back on the subway.

We headed north to 8th Ave. & 14 St. to the Chocolate Bar (48 8th Ave.) for a little Chocolate. I had a coconut Chocolate thing, Naomi had Ice Chocolate Raspberry drink, Heather had a Brownie and Donald had some Chocolate Mint Ice Cream. It was very nice Chocolate.

Then we got back on the subway and headed to the Pier 83, (42 St & 12th Ave) for a trip on the "Beast", a high speed boat ride to the Statue and back. It was the only thing I wanted to do, so now everyone got their wish for the city completed. We then next door to the Aircraft carrier, Intrepid. It was closed for the night, so we headed to a local firehouse, but they were out on a call.

We went to a local Pizza place for dinner and then back to the firehouse. It was about 7:30 by the time we headed back to the hotel. It was a long day again. Hopefully tomorrow will be a little more laid back.
